What goes on a homeschool transcript
A high school transcript is a one- or two-page summary of everything your graduate studied: which courses they took, in what year, how many credits each was worth, and what grade they earned. Admissions offices read hundreds of these, so the details that matter most are consistency and clarity: using the same conventions a public or private high school would use, so a reader can interpret the record at a glance.
Courses, credits, and Carnegie units
Credits are measured in Carnegie units, where one unit represents roughly 120 hours of instruction, a full year in one subject. A year-long course earns 1.0 credit and a semester or half-year course earns 0.5. Courses are grouped under standard subject headings (English, Mathematics, Science, Social Studies, Foreign Language, Fine Arts, Physical Education & Health, and Electives) so the distribution of your graduate's work is obvious without hunting for it.
How the GPA is calculated
Each letter grade converts to grade points on the standard 4.0 scale: A and A+ are 4.0, A− is 3.7, B+ is 3.3, B is 3.0, and so on down to F at 0.0. Rigorous coursework is then weighted: Honors adds +0.5 grade points, and AP or Dual Enrollment adds +1.0, with any single course capped at 5.0. Standard and experiential courses carry no bonus.
The cumulative GPA is the sum of each course's grade points multiplied by its credits, divided by total credits attempted. Our builder does this arithmetic as you type, and you can override the final figure if your homeschool program uses a different scale.
What the finished transcript includes
Your homeschool program name and contact information, a student information block, courses organized by academic year or by subject, per-year credit and GPA subtotals, cumulative totals, a grading scale key, a notation key explaining course types, and a signature block for the parent or guardian acting as administrator. That signature matters: the transcript is issued by your homeschool program, so the person who oversaw the coursework is the one who attests to it.
